On your engine photo the engine number is right behind the 2 fuel pipes that go to the warm up regulator on the front of the block. You will need to clean it up with a bit of sand paper.

I have seen an aircon pump. ;0) I was referring to the canister above the gearbox and the extra plastic thing in the vacuum line to the dissy.

    ......and the tail lights.

The lights and rear wiper were an option here.

    Whats the VIN number?

What do the seats look like?

I had a 5 Door GTI that had full kjet and rear wiper and GTI seats. pommie import 1984. Same colour as that car.

If its a 79, it must be very late to have those rear lights. i have only seen one Aussie delivered Mk1 with big tail lights.

    You learn something everyday

I love it that you guys know so much about Veedubs, i know where to go when something f**ks up
Do any of you engine pro's do tutoring?

Uh...the seals look, um, rubbery? Nah, what do you mean?

Ill find out the VIN and engine number tomorow and ill try find the front windscreen to get the rego stuff.

I wana get to the bottom of this.

I was reading somewhere, in an old thread there, that the Mk1 5door GTI was unique to Germany and in the UK they where re-badges at GLi.

Is there a chance it could be true for my car?

Thats why we want the VIN number so we can tell what year it is. Should be stamped below the middle of the windscreen on the raintray, or on the driverside suspension top.

I reckon it might prove to be an early UK car. GL spec with an injected motor, thus GLi.

I saw a car very similar to this in Brisbane about mayb 5 years ago. It was silver and had quite a bit of rust which was a pity because otherwise it was a good Mk1 I thought. Injected motor and I love air conditioning. The interior was pretty good at the time. Tan upholstery I think.

Anyway I went look at it as it sounded good over the phone. The story was that it was an import from Japan.

Both are to do with the sludgebox auto trans...

Locate a 5 speed and update.

Possibly be a 1.7 capacity engine also, Had a jap front cut that donated an engine and trans ( auto) to my daily hack some time ago, both trans and engine are now long gone thankfully.

    Good luck .
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    Cheers,
    Grant...

There are lots of big tail lights around, but they were fitted later. GTI imports sold a lot of them as well as the correct rear panel. The big tail lights were only fitted from around '82.

He said that it has a compliance plate with ADRs, so it must be an Australian GLS/D that was modified.
