    .
In the UK they were fitted on W reg cars. My first GTI was a small light registered in late 1980. 1981 W cars had the facelift interior and big lights, I also had one of those, my 3rd GTi.

Seems to be a bit of a oddity to me, I don't reckon it's pommie as I never heard of an injected mk1 hardtop that wasn't a GTI in the UK. I can get my head around a Japanese import much easier.

The big tail lights started on the '81 model Golf. Small tail lights continued on the cabrio only.

You can see the VIN in the photo on the strut tower. It appears to be 179.... indicating that it is a '79 model.

"He said that it has a compliance plate with ADRs"

I was looking at the plate just infront of the radiator next to the bonet catch, im probably wrong.

I was actauly thinking of getin a 5speed, how much would it cost and how hard would it be to convert it and put in a clutch pedal?

Any tips on how to squeeze out more power for about $1-2K?

What is written on the plate? Any reference to Australian design Rules?

    Easy conversion to manual.

Hang a pedal on the end of your existing setup. Clutch cable

Hopefully it has the bracket on the steering rack for the linkage.
Gear shifter setup and a clutch.

And a gearbox. I have a few genuine GTI ones left $500 if interested

When did they start hiding the chassis number under the rain-guard?
Or, more specifically when was it moved from the strut tower?
