It's so hard to pick because they're both the best cars ever made.
Although the 4doors are much more practical the 2doors have cleaner lines and are more aesthetically pleasing.
I don't own one.. Yet!

I don't own either a 2 or a 4door yet! But I intend to have one of each for projects in the next twelve months!

Seeing as the people who built my car know more about VW's than a large majority of the people on this forum.. I am stoked! Better to have a car built by a few blokes who have a clue.. Than to have a piece of **** put together by a know-it-all 17 year old who's barely received their P plates.
Just sayin

Welcome mate I have a soft spot for the old Peugeots. New ones arnt much chop but the 205's, 405's, 505's etc are great. Have considered into looking at getting at 205 Gti in the past but always seem to go back to vw's haha.
I cant believe theres still a huge debate about 2 doors over 4 doors. ****s getting pretty old guys. I love two doors and four doors. In saying that I have owned 4 vws (2x mk1's, 1x VR6 and 1x passat mk1) all of which are four doors! And in my opinion look great! I could have chosen to have a 2 door anytime but always end up with 4! oh I and rarely have anyone in the back seat either so I dont chose em for practical reasons haha. Either way they both look good when done properly Would be a VERY boring scene if all we had were 2 door mk1's
Looking forward to seeing what you do mate!

You buy what is around at the time you are looking. Everyone is going to have a favourite, I don't think that one is better than another, apart from visibility being better in a 3 door.
If you build your own car, and do it the right way - there is no problem. Buying cars from VW experts is a potential minefield. You don't think that they know you don't know what your looking at?
At the end of the day on the whole, I am happy there are more MK1 owners spending money on their cars as it encourages more reproduction parts at cheaper pricing.
