I'd look in the haynes manual to start off with.
Any one know where to find the specs for original mk1s. power etc. curb weight and so on?
Cheers
Mike
I'd look in the haynes manual to start off with.
is there a copy of it online?
to be honest i'm not even sure what engine i have in my mk1
what is the engine code?
it's on the rego sticker, or the flat near cyl 3 and 4 just below the head, but it's actually on the block. should be a VW symbol two letters, and then a few numbers.
i'll have to have a look.
it's a petty 1978 mk1. so from what i've been looking at today it's either a 1.3 or 1.6?
1.6.
aussie golfs never came with 1,1 or 1,3 engines that europe got. only 1.6 P and later 1.5D's. Made about 75 odd HP from memory standard.
there's also a big 1.6 stamped on teh back of the block.
awesome... what a beast!
thanks heaps. i'll have to have a better look tonight.
everything on wiki is and and europe based info.
I'll have a look in the owner's 'instruction manual' when I get home.

If you have the full engine number, the letter prefix should give me an idea. Jarred is spot on at 75 bhp or 55kw for the FP, however the FV is only 70 bhp or 51 kw for the period you state the car was built.
That is assuming the engine is the original, and/or in stock standard format..
Let us know and then many of the boys and girls on this forum can share with you how to get some more oomph out if it.
1991 Golf GTI Manual - Tornado Red (Little Red Wagen)
1998 Golf Cabriolet Manual - Black Magic Pearl (aka Rommel's Panzer) Deceased/written off
1993 Golf Cabriolet Manual - Alpine White (aka Hitler Youth Wagen) Deceased/written off
1976 Golf LS Manual - Bronco Brown (aka Roadrunner) Deceased/worn out
isn't there a full listing somewhere on here ?
so if you have your engine num prefix
have a seach
but from memory they were as stated 75 hp and 110 hp from gti
