Does any of the sponsorship money go towards the car or does it all go to charity?

$110 goes as a sponsorship fee to the $hitbox organisers, the rest goes to Cancer Council. Or you can just Donate to Cancer council via the Every Day Hero page.

It's a bit of a Top Gear style situation $1000 budget, buy car for $500 and spend $500 on doing it up (Excluding wheels + Tyres as they are safety).

We can't and won't use any money donated to working on the car. My Mechanic has thrown down $500 including the sponsorship fee, but he is going to help with hoist time and list price parts as well, So I'd like to have his name on the car, hence the sponsorship, it means a little less towards our fundraising, but exposure for those helping us most.

Are you only allowed the $1k for the car all up or can it be more?

Technically $1k all up and they are stamping down on it pretty tightly as they have had a few people have rather 'nice' cars donated to them... and it kills the spirit of the rally so they say.

If I pay a mechanic, that's some budget gone, they used to include rego on a 'duration of the trip' basis, so 10 days of rego costs X amount off budget, but the differences state to state were too big to factor in.

That said and done, if I owned an Auto Barn and wanted to deck my car out with driving lights, and seats etc as a donation then that's ok. Personally, I'd want that kind of 'money' to be dropped on sponsorship and cash donations.

Work we do to the car ourselves is also 'free' - for example if we are donated some new brakes and pads, and install them ourselves - cost = $0. Some dudes last year made a 6 wheeler Ford Fiesta.

They 'evaluate' the car at scrutineering before we head out, if it's deemed more than '$hitbox' worthy, then you're announced as 'cheaters' to the whole rally you're allowed to go but spend the entire time being ridiculed by your fellow participants and given all the menial tasks for the trip.

The cars are auctioned (or buyback price negotiated) at the end of the rally and that money also goes to Cancer Council

Mechanically all we need is general items, like filters, some hoses. Electrically some globes, and a starter relay re-wire (which I think is now done!)

    Mods wise:
    • I'm hoping for new struts and springs to lift it a few inches...
    • wheels and tyres (which are not budget inclusive) will give us a tad more height
    • we have have an old school roof rack and I'd like some period style suit cases strapped on to house non essentials and look funky (plus the 2 spares & 2x 20L Jerries which are mandatory),
    • I already have a 10x 5w CREE LED 30cm light bar (which I picked up for $50),
    • some driving lights - I have a few spare miss matched ones from my triton (damn roo's)
    • possibly some better padded seats (MK2 fit I hear?)
    • make up a sump guard, & integrate a bullbar ( DIY I have welding type buddies)...
    • rear step/storage crate possibly for spares or jerries instead of on the roof. (like the Golf Country)

There is heaps you can do without going over... just have to be clever.

Hit up the wreckers with that red MK1 today - he had the grumps, and wasn't feeling charitable for the few parts I asked for as spares... (lights, grill, rad, and fuse box - the 2 latter were busted/missing anyway) but that aside he still gave me the flares (and probably pissed himself laughing while I was drenched in the rain getting them off)... But I got them...

I'd love to fit them, or keep them, given how much his attitude rubbed me wrong... but I think they're better off going to someone who's had dibs on them from when I first posted them up, the money will go towards either rego for the golf or straight into our charity fundraising.

but I'll tease you all anyway...

I haven't seen any that wide to suit a MK1 since I had some over 15 years ago.

    Good pickup.

Up the massive ramps without a worry - to drop off the exhaust for a little welding.

Tidy roadworthy 14's really change the look, alas I need different wheel bolts.

A roof-rack my grandfather (pictured left) purchased in the early 70's for an old corolla they bought midway through a trip when my dad was young (pictured right), they had an old wagon that ate a piston, so bought a new 'rolla 2dr in Grafton... hence the need for a roof-rack.

Repaired the 1/4 windows... they work really well now. Might take bets on how many K's till one falls out on the Rally.
All takings will be donated to the Cancer Council in the name of the winner/s.

    AND

Does anyone want to donate some air filters... quoted by Ripco today $110+
