That's good to know... still confused as to why somewhere could price that sort of thing at over $100 when it's easily attainable (after some deeper research!)

do you have a genuine part # by chance?

    -------------------
I hit up my local 4x4 place who I'm chummy with and current model stock hilux front struts are a near identical match to the golf rears, spring diameter and all, the lower mount point is a bit different but nothing a welder or some spacers can't fix, once it's thru rego we'll be able to have more of a muck around, and thanks to Dubstein if it all goes pear shaped we should have some good stockers to use in the car.

In other news, the $hitbox should be ready to take to blue slip after this weekend. New wheel bolts arrived, the sensor will do the trick, and we'll just give it a tidy up this weekend and get the seats back in... more updates Monday.

I remembr buying a petrol air filter off ebay for around $12. Might sound dumb but have you search on there for yours?

How much were your wheels bolts. I remember when i bought a set of bbs mahles and didnt have a set of bolts long enough so i just went to a wreckers and dug through a drum. Ended up finding a set that had the right taper and thread but were to long (they hit on the brakes inside the drums so i just cut them to fit

They start at about $50 on ebay :\ Can get them out of the states for $7US a piece, but the mob that do them require internationals to use freight forwarding rather than shipping themselves. $25 is fine for an air filter... I'll hit up VW and see if they still have a similar one, the local VW dealer said they'd do 'cost price' on stuff for me... who wants cost price MK1 stuff!?

The studs were $70 for a set of 16 including the locking tool. The only gripe I have with them is that they're actually a stud in a nut, so the stud stays in the wheel if you don't nip them up with some force (off the car) first, I wanted to put on some lock-tight too, but the old man got too keen and threw them on first.

The pic makes them look like they're a fully machined wheel bolt. - EDIT - the brand is "NICE PRODUCTS"

    -------------------------

    Yesterday saw:
    • the airfilter in and stock airbox lid back in place
    • the reverse switch in (and working!)
    • Seats back in with seat covers to cover up the torn rear seat and bolster for blue-slip
    • Rear brakes adjusted, wheel bearings checked and in good order
    • Secured the battery
    • Rear struts back in
    • New wheels on
    • All lights checked and working

TEST DRIVE! well, a small one, up and down our farm road...

Certainly going to need new front shocks at very least, I can sit my fat arse (100kg) on the front and it sags, then stays there when i get off...

Rears are better, but not much... no good on bad dirt roads.

The clutch is really high on the pedal, but in really good nick, so we need to adjust it, and front brakes are crap but it's not been driven in ages, so they need new pads and a shim.

more pics (and vid) to come.
