I found a pair of these in the scrap bin at my local 4x4 place...

Perfect fit... might be a bit stiff... we'll soon find out!

Original spring on the left - original strut fitted with 4x4 spring on the right!

if they're too stupid we'll bin them again and go looking for something in-between but can't complain for free and sh*ts' and giggles.

    A bit stiff ???

Look how much thicker they are. Your suspension isn't going to move!

16mm vs 11mm... they're gunna be bloody stiff, but remember we've got 2 spare wheels and 40L of fuel to go in at very minimum, as well as light truck tyres under the back - if we're happy enough with the ride on the springs, then we can always drop tyre pressure a bit to help too.

That's going to be very stiff! It would wreck your chassis if you took a few hard hits I'd imagine.

A bloke on this forum uses mk1 cabby springs in his rally mk1, the cabby is a heavier car and so the springs are a tad stiffer too. Worth looking into
    - Orange Golf mk1 LS, 1.8 5speed, 32/36 - sold
    - Golf mk1 Swallowtail rebuild, completely stripped
    - Brown U.S import 81 cabby
    - 88 Honda crx b18cr

Cabby springs would be a good option. I didn't think of that. Is that what Geoff Hale runs?

Very stiff is an understatement, but the ride height was spot on... it was hilarious to drive.

also made up a home-spec roof basket and air-foil with LED light bar.

Seems like I'll go on the hunt for stock Cabby springs!

Don't know what you're complaining about. It moved didn't it?

Or you need to put on more weight.

    Cheers

    Paul
