MK1 conversions

Hey everyone, iv recently bought a mk1... since buying it iv had it tuned a bunch of times, had the carby rebuilt etc.. long story short, i hate the stock engine, such a dog! iv been wanting to throw something a bit more reliable/current into it. Iv got a v5 bora laying around and super keen to get it put into the mk1 a couple of people iv asked about the conversion said it cant be done due engine mounts. I can source the mounts so i guess im seeing if anyone knows of any shops that could do the job??

i spoke to a company from the states called euro wise who sell a similar kit, they said the v5 engine will fit with a small amount of fab to the side engne mount but it does fit.

A gentleman on VWVortex has actually done a V5 bora conversion in his Mk1. It sounds amazing.

Camden GTI is probably one of the shops that would attempt the conversion.

The problem wont be mounting the engine, it'll be working the electronics!

Too hard basket for me and I have seen them done.

Really time consuming and while CGTI might do it, nailing a price down would be hard. To many variables to cover. I could see you paying $5K easily.

Much more sensible to fit a 4 potter of some description. 16V, 1.8T etc.

Even a 2L 8v like a 2E on injection, extractors, exhaust, mild cam and intake and your laughing. power to weight is the upside to a small Mk1.
