Its a 1.6, late model.
THe small block, 1L, 1.1,1.3 , 1.4 look different, they are a crossflow engine and sit on different mounts.
That is probably a tired 1.6L.
For performance on a budget, put a 2L bottom end under that head, with a cam if you like and the carby that you have and hold on.
It will up the compression and will go great.
The head is hydraulic and has the late style second oil return and so will fit straight onto a 2L bottom end, or 1.8.
Thats probably the best motor to drive in a Mk1 and one of the cheapest swops going.
Go diesel :-)
i had a GTS citi from south africa for my first car. was told they dont rust proof there cars over there and sure enough mine rusted out beyond repair so id suggest looking into it before it ends up like mine being used for parts.
also to get parts from autostyles you need to organise your own shipping, not hard but is a pain otherwise jump onto some of the SA forums the guys over there are pretty helpful.
Thanks for that
The car is in very good nick, thanks to the previous owner..just have to get it rego'd and then put a 2L bottom end as Golf Loon suggested
Hey dude, firstly nice car. the newer citi's in SA go very very fast, and are very reliable, my dad and brother have owned many.
I do have my brother still living in SA however im unsure if he can help you out with shipping as he's very busy and i find it hard for him to ship ME anything.. however shipping should be relatively cheap, depending on the time frame you want the goods by.
If you are able to find some way of shipping things over, id love to do a bulk buy, and ill pay for shipping costs too :)
I know nothing about engines...lol,but I am from South Africa, and am sure that the 1992 Citi Shuttle came with the 1.3 engine ???
Dude, I'm in Brisbane too. We should meetup some time as I'm also interested in getting a Mk1 as a project car.
Citis are very hard to find in Australia so you've got yourself a seriously unique machine.
I'd go ahead with Loon's suggestion and then enjoy your pride and joy :)
I may be able to hook you up with some suppliers in SA. I'll look into it.
Just out of curiosity, when was your citi imported?
the small blocks(1.1, 1.3) tilt with by head forward and the rhs chassis mount is further forward, the big block engines(1.5, 1.6 and 1.8)sit with the top of the engine leaning to the rear. 1.6s normally have the water out let on the head coming out at an angle between the 1st and 2nd cylinder from the left as you face the engine, the 1.8s usually point straight out between the 3rd and 4th cylinder from the left as you look in the bay.
id go for a larger capacity bottom end and up the size of carburretor accordingly
