    MK1 Caddy question

Was the MK1 Golf Caddy (pickup) ever sold in Australia as an official model?

Would it be possible to import late model builds from South Africa? Anybody ever look into this?

Was built until 2006 with updated dash and 1.6i engines .....

It wasnt sold here i dont think no.
Ud have to own/drive it overseas for 12 months before importing any car that was built after 1988. Youre free to bring in one built before then.
The only other exception is if its part of the SEVS scheme but then someone would have to have a workshop that is approved to comply them. I dont think that is the case for the caddy at the moment and i cant see anyone investing the money required to make that the case.

    Never brought here officially.

There's currently about a half dozen odd in the country apparently.

you could do what Andrew did and get one from the US and convert it to RHD, or buy one from the UK RHD but chances are with rust/rot. You'd still have to import one, unless you can find one for sale here.

as long as they are Pre-88 then yes, I spose so. I would be very cautious buying from SA, unless you had trusted friends of family there. I've heard of a few stories from SA friends, and I personally would be more comfortable buying from the UK or US.

I'm having family over there check on pre 1989 models. Brother in law is spray painter and can source a good one and fix it up for me prior to shipment.

I'd be wary of non-trusted suppliers as well.
