    Check your booster

    inensem1...I've been reading through this thread and it occurs to me that you may have a defective booster or your back brakes aren't working as they should or in fact, at all. Sure, we all like to slam Mk1 brakes but I reckon a lot of it is because we also drive cars with more modern and efficient systems. The difference between my Mk1 and Mk5 is phenomenal, for instance. But I remember when I had a near-new GLD back in the early '80s and I then thought that the brakes were very much OK, as good as my Range Rover with 4 wheel discs and a booster as big as a soccer ball. They did a fine job of stopping. As the guys say...the components are old.

    Yeh, i think ill start by replacing or rebuilding the rear drums! Never done it but thats why i got a golf to learn the basics. Just have to wait till uni holidays!

    Does it have the load bias adjuster on the rear beam?
    (This was fitted to autos)
