    Mk 1 Water leaks on passenger side floor

    Does anyone have a solution on how to fix a water leak on the passenger side? It seems to come down from above the glovebox/ air vent pipe area and finds its way onto the cardboard tray under the glovebox and finally onto the floor..

    Not sure if it is from the screen or the spae/ area under the rain tray when water sits there depending on how much rain you get

    Thanks

    Either the heater core or the window seal I would say.

    In my '93 Mk1 I have two drain holes in the rain tray. (Left and right side - where the bonnet hinges are located). Both have a rubber funnel attached. From time to time these need cleaning out, leaves and dirt block this drain point, water will then overflow into the heater fresh air intake, and then the footwell.

    Hopefully it's this easy to repair.

    I would look at:
    - grommet where antenna cable goes into wheel well;
    - grommets where wiring harness goes into engine bay;
    - windscreen seal
    - maybe heater hose grommet and heater core

    Add to that list the brake-line entry. The line is directly under the rain-tray drain - brilliant design (NOT)

    It's been a while...

    Any sign of rust bubbles around the outside of the windscreen seal ??? good indicator that the metal under the seal is perforated, this allows bucketloads of water into the car, usually onto the fuse / relay plate making electrical problems a real issue to boot. You can usually see rusty water marks above the fuse plate where the water has been running in.. ( torch required..)
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

    If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    I've been working on a passenger side water leak in the same area. So far I've ruled out:
    -Arial hole (re-sealed)
    -Windscreen
    -underbonnet drain plug (as previously mentioned)
    -badly bogged repairs (fixed)

    Upon further investigation I've found that if water is sprayed up into the very top corner of the guard (e.g. water flicked up from moving wheels in wet) it POURS into the car from under dash, appearing to come from high up (like windscreen corner or something). I'm planning to take the guard off to block up this hole, not sure if this is bad design, decay from rust or poor repairs.

    I'll keep you posted if I fix it..

    Good luck!

    there is the first place to go in a mk1, rust wise, and completely invisible, as you say, from the outside or general inspection...

    moisure held in the a-pillars that eventually rusts the outer bottom of the a-pillar out also rusts out that lower bit first... then, water can get into the lower a-pillar section (along the door hinge part) where it can then enter the cabin...
