So is my LS a bit more, ah, specific?

I think of GLSs as German made as opposed to LS which were made/assembled in Australia (I don't think it stands for German, though).

This is what I always thought it was for, though I was never 100% sure about the 'G'.

    Germany
    Luxury
    Sports

I dont believe the G is correct, but I'm pretty sure L and S are spot on. You might not think of S being sporty, with a 1.6 etc, but rememeber they also came as just 'L' in europe with 1.1's and 1.3's. could also get 'LD' I believe. (which is why I was never sure about the 'G') Although aussie built cars (which are the same spec as the german built ones we got delivered) didn't have a G, but only an LS.

    D is also for diesel.

GTI is for grand touring injection I believe, but not 100% sure.

I dunno what they mean but i know Ls the lowest and GLS, GLI and GTI i the highest. There was a thread on here somewhere with info on it. The L was very basic and it went up from there.

me thinks GLS is Grand Luxury Sports, and LS is just Luxury Sports.

auto acronymns are weird things. no one knows what they stand for.

I'm pretty sure the I in GLI is for Injectionale like in the GTI. (All GLI's were fuel injected). I htink the european market saw D's (plain diesel) LD's (Luxury Diesel) and then there's the G bit that none of us are sure about, haha.

It is possible, if you think about it, that the G always stands for Grand, since it is only really by coincidence that the aussie assembled cars were all to LS spec. I'm sure that there are some "features" that GLS's have over LS's - could be seat material, or number of speakers or something weird.

Someone tell me this - are LS's supposed to have intermittent wipers? cos mine doesnt - no relay for it either.
