looks like i have found a set of webers with a passat manifold but they need re-kitting.
can anyone tell me what this requires as i';m not the most mechanically minded person.
cheers
Please don't take this the wrong way. I'm not having a go, just being realistic (in my mind at least)
but define "not mechanically minded". Cause you are considering an engine swap here, which is a rather involved process, albeit, not impossible for a beginner.
I'm not entirely sure what's meant by 'Re-kitting'. Could mean it needs re-jetting to suit your application, (most probably in my mind) or the carb needs a few new seals, (and etc). Both do-able for a beginner too.
p.s. Passat manifold will only suit a single weber, not a 'set'. Could you explain what you found a bit more please?
hey mate
no offense taken at all. i kinda know my way around an aircooled motor to do the basics but that's about it.
as for doing an engine swap, i'd get all the bits and peices required and get my mechanic to do it. definately not something i'd have a crack at. well not yet anyway.
at the moment i have a stock Mk 1 engine in the car with a 1.8 Audi head on it.
still has the stock carby's.
i'm weiging up the options and looking at weber's vs full engine change.
from what i've read so far just going webers may be the best bet.
the webers i have found is a webber twin downdraught 32/36 on a passat ts manifold. Probably suit re-kitting. Has not run in a couple of years.
cheers and thanks for all the advice and assistance!!
Cool mate, sounds good. I just wanted to check
no worries
so any idea what the re-kitting is?
i'm thinking things like seals but no idea where to get them/ how much they cost.
hopefully as you say they are things i can do myself.
also, ballpark cost for the Weber and manifold?
I had a weber 32/36 DGV on my old 1.6, with the passat manifold. I got a seal kit and some new jets off a mob off ebay. I'm sure if you hunt around for some carby shops, they'd also sell kits as well. be warned, carbs are a black art and can be fiddly at the best of times. best to take your time and have a good clean work space (and good memory!) Cost about 50 bucks from memory.
I'd pay about $300 for a rebuilt/recently rebuilt carb. and under well $50 for a completely crap one -that needs professional attention. say $50-150 one that needs some seals/a bit of TLC/etcetc. That's all just imo, HTH
thanks for the help with it all mate.
i've been into dubs for ages but as a driver only, not into the mechanics and that stuff. trying to learn bit by bit.
sorry guys, one more question!!
will a Passat manifold fit as i have a 1.8L head on my car?
cheers
