Hi Volks,
A little while ago (2yrs), I bought a Mk1 Golf and let the registration run-out (long story! ). Anyway, I'd like to re-register it now and when I made inquiries, I found out that its engine wasn't what the rego dept expected (VIC). It has a SEAT 1.8 in it (it's nice and quick though!).

Now you and I know that SEAT is Spanish for VW (okay, okay, it's not, but you know what I mean), so the engine probably fitted sweet as a nut (they pulled the injection and fitted a carby). However, the rego dept started talking about "engineer's certificate, tut, tut"....

I rung up an 'engineer' and bless him; he's booked-out for months, lives a million miles from me (I'm in Geelong), charges like a wounded bull and was generally about as helpful as a bargain-hunter at a New Year's sale.

So I'm thinking I'll put a Mk1 engine back into it and get it registered properly. I figure it'll be cheaper than screwing-around with some officious 'engineer' (apologies to any auto engineers out there who don't fit this generalization, but you know, some guys...).

So, can anyone point me at a mk1 Golf engine (recoed) or engine dealer? I'd be very grateful.

Cheers,
Bill
