Engineering should be a breeze to get through with that conversion. 1800s came in some Mk1 chassis' so there's no doubt it'll be Ok. You might have to up-spec your brakes to match the 1800 MK1s though.

Just as a matter of interest was that engine ever used in a Golf or other Volkswagen? If you can prove that it was it might make things a bit easier.
