    lost keys

1 son has lost the only set of keys for my other son's cabby. is the key barrel of a mk 2, like the rest of the interior, or a mk 1 as i guess i'll need to replace it. and is it easy to remove to temporarily bypass the steering lock and hot wire. i am interstate, so need to pass on some instructions so he can get the car home.
also, do they normally use different keys for the door locks, as this one did, not to mention the fuel cap!

    cheers

To remove the lock you need a key, so that option it out.

Yes, it is 1 key for all the locks from factory. What year is the car?

i believe it's an 87, english import, so it has a weird VIN. as it had 2 keys, i don't know which was the original, if either is!

Your cheapest and best way is to get a key made to the car.

Either get someone out to make a key to it or if the car is open, remove the drivers side door lock and take it to a Locksmith, this will generally save you a couple of $$$

    Classic Volkswagen emblem keys

Basically send them the code of the key from the back of the handle and in 7 days you get the keys in the post

nothing attempted yet paul, just arrive back in brisbane, was down in canberra again when i got the call that the keys were lost.
car is about 30mins away on the side of the road. will try and do something with it tomorrow, hopefully i wont have to get a trailer and bring home that way. it must have had a new ignition barrel at some stage, hopefully it's already drilled for me
