Did about 130kms in the GTi today, cos the sun was out and it wasn't hot, which is perfect conditions for a car without aircon...
Some observations:
Car started first time, having left the fuel pump to whirr away then stuck my head under the bonnet to have a listen at the injectors/distribution chamber thingy. Sounded like some starvation going on initially and then something must've dislodged as it sounded like more fuel was running through them.
The exhaust is getting noisier and raspier. I suspect it could just be because i've blown out a few loose baffles, but hell it sounds gooooood.
Got home after the initial 90km drive, had a quick beer with Mrs Squirrel, then went out to fire the car back up. No joy. Even leaving the pump running for 30 seconds didn't help. Eventually fired up on three cylinders, fourth one kicked in shortly after.
Did another 40kms with no problems at all, then parked up back at home. Went out about 15 minutes later to check how many drops of oil were on the floor (two). Also noticed a bit of spray behind the sump and gearbox, presumably from where the oil has dribbled down the front of the sump and been blown backwards.
Still can't find the source of this leak. Doesn't appear to be affecting the quantity of oil in the engine, dipstick still reads max.
And that was my Sunday. Grin-inducing and perplexing in equal measures. And now i've got too much petrol in the tank to drain it and dismantle the fuel pump...
Might not be coming to the cruise next weekend unless I can get things sorted out, which is a bit of a bummer
There is no Golf in my life. This is unacceptable...
