Lifter Noise, Fixes

Got some pretty nasty Lifter noise in the 1.8L, pretty sure they are the hydraulic ones.
They only go off when engine is warm, and from my reading on google, Lifter noise when warm/hot and not when cold means a shagged lifter or two.

Any suggestions on what to do next, is it possible to pull current ones out and clean/scrub ect and put back in, or is it not worth the hassle?

It about $80 for 8 brand new lifters from GAP.
Me, on my mk1 and mk2, and my mate on his mk2 have tried everything from thicker grades of oil to thous additives, but once there ****ed there ****ed.

You can take them out and attempted to open them up and clean the gunk out (as ive seen on vortex) but it doesn't always work and is very short term if it does.

I'd say just replace em, there not expensive and doesn't look to hard to do with the right tools.

ahah i have the same issue in my 1.8, after track day they carry on like no end and it sounds like the engine is falling to bits...but once they cool down it's no problem...i bought 8 new ones for $100 but haven't put them in yet.

Ive just pulled all mine out, 2 are seized shut !!!!

I've heard running .5L of diesel in with the oil before a change (just as you would an oil flush/additive thingy) can solve that.

the diesel works by breaking down all the sludge, which helps you run out the crap, which means the lifters get full oil like they're meant to and stop being noisey

My old audi was terrible with it, and afaik it was solved using this method. (after I had sold it..)

New lifters won't help lots if the oil pump strainer is blocked with muck. Drop the sump off as well and give it a clean out.
