    Larger Mk 1 Fuel tank

    Hi all
Does anybody know if there are other fuel tanks with a greater capacity than the standard 45 litres which is fitted to a 77 carby engined car that can be fitted. I'm not to concerned if the fuel pick up outlet is in a different spot.
    Cheers

    Hi Geoff,

As Dom has said, the latter Cabriolets had larger fuel tanks, However they wont fit straight into an earlier car unless you remove some of the underfloor bracing that goes across the car behind the original tank.

Thanks for that info DOM and for the extra detail GRANT. It steers me in the right direction. We're looking at doing a long distance event in the rally car next year and looking for as much tank capacity as possible.

Are these legal? I thought they would need to be under the floorpan.

Certainly any fuel tank must be totally sealed from the passenger compartment in a CAMS approved motorsrort car. I'm not saying that it's impossible but it's not easy. There is a SD1 Rover V8 rally car which is a big hatch back which runs an alloy tank in the back and it has some sort of high tech perspex panel which seals it from the passenger compartment. I am going to lot into the cabriolet option and maybe a 5 speed box.

    Cheers
