i found a fuel pump amongst all the bits in my garage and it seemed to run fine when i connected it up to 12V... its a standard golf one so it should do fine

im just pricing the whole conversion as im a povo uni student... and i need to make sure i dont run out of cash half way through and end up with no car at all...

i dont have the rubber piping to connect the manifold to fuel dizzy so i was gonna check out clark rubber for other options... the manifold i have faces to the gearbox side of the engine but i have one that points the other way but i dunno if i have a throttle body for it.. therefore setting up the fuel dizzy on the other side was also an option..

    just some extra questions...

what is the difference between FI tank and standard tank?
is electronic ignition necessary?... and if so, how is it set up and what extra components will i need?

where would be a good place to source parts like injectors, fuel pressure accumulator etc.? (i thought brian at galston maybe???)

    thanks guys

    mike
System pressure can be up around the 80 PSI mark with a warm engine..

You can use a diesel tank ( identical) but not a carburettored tank, the plumbing is different sizes, FI recirculates the fuel at a much greater rate than the carby system. As for the rest of the components i can probably sell you a complete set up ( have at last count about 6 CIS sets ), as my stuff will soon be converted to megasquirt .

I can do you a complete electronic dizzy, control module, and coil with factory harness ( used it all last december to sort out a points ign so I know it works..) altho the early GTi's still had points distributors..

I have got a lot of bits from ebay motors in the states, the little bits cost bugger all and are cheap to mail out here..Its the things like manifolds and fuel tanks that cost a bomb..

Have plenty of info on hooking it all up and can send you a copy of the fuel section from a bentley, I have always found haynes manuals leave a bit to be desired when it comes to real data..

The best thing is once it's set up, it starts first crank and takes minimal maintenance, both the MAJOR reasons why i ditched carbies years ago..
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    ive got:

manifold and throttle body with cold start valve
    a fuel distributor/air flow meter
    control pressure regulator

so i was wondering where i could pick up an electric fuel pump and accumulator as well as the thermoswitch

    and which injectors are reccomended?

    and am i missing anything?
    thanks

One thing you will need to check is if your current head has injector ports !!, or do you have a manifold with injector holes ??

aye aye to that one loon... set up nicely, you dont have to touch it for years and doesnt miss a beat, i think thats why im so attatched to my 8v and cant put in a 16 or 20v engine bacause i wont get the same responce as a mechanical inj setup, always cranks over when you JUST flick the key (not hold it till it starts) adnd turns on first time always

I've got k-jet on my 16v cab and it starts nice and runs smooth but I know that there is another 10-15 horses in this engine if an aftermarket computer is used(all of my customers cars blow me away) and then you CAN use your Commodore fuel pump to make it run.

    True.

    KE-Jet has a computer.

It replaces the cold start valve with an electronic box of tricks and has an emissions sensoir on the exhaust.
