JH BLOCK 1.8 k-jet idle problem?? anyone??

    hey all...

just finished the half yearly tune of my k-jet 8v, she runs very smoothly under acceleration, but in idle shes a bit all over the place? ranges from 800- 1200 rpm? prob climbs and de climbs overy 10seconds... i checked all the airflow plugs and sensors and when i adjust the idle screw it does nothing for quite a while.. then either revs really high or almost stalls?.. theres no middle?

any ideas would be much appreciated!!!

    Air leak is my guess.

Spray around the inlet joints with some WD40 or similar. If any is drawn in the motor will rev up a bit.

Another thing to do is clean out the idle bypass in the TB and polish the tickover screw. Then reset the idle. I stick the screw in a cordless drill and use some metal polish on it.

Hi, Do you still have the idle problem?
I also have a Golf Cabriolet, A 93 model with the same problem.
i have replaced filter and plugs etc, and this has helped, but the wavey idle is
still there. I also replaced the bosch oxygen sensor and this has help the warm idle, but it still not quite right.with idle moving up to 150 rpm up and down. If you have any ideas i would be very pleased. or if you know someone that can repair the bosch k-jet system i would like to know!
    thanks for any help Mike.

Mike yours could also be airleaks, or the air con valve on those late cabrios.

I've no A/C on this car, I have removed some of the rubber hoses and they appear sound, however there's a lot of black "stuff" in them. So I think I will replace them. Any ideas what this stuff is? it's like soft black tar. Maybe there's a blockage.

Thanks for the quick reply, It's given me an idea of what to look for.

    Cabbies!!!

I think it's pretty normal for this to happen, a few of mates all had MK1's and we all had this happen at some point or another, on a side note - Wabbit - have you got a mechanical air flow meter on the front right hand side of your engine bay?

If you do, open it up and give it a good washing with washing up liquid and you will get a nice increase in acceleration!!

Can't do it to mine apparently but your's should be ok! http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newf...icon_smile.gif
