Introducing myself

Hi all. I've been hanging around here for the past couple of months under my son's a/c...Toff. I'm the golf nut and Toff is hopefully going to give a big hand in my project. I'm Brian BTW and this is me...........

Bought a 1977 GLS 2 door back in !977 and loved it until some prawn in a Merc. convertible totalled it in 1983 while it was parked. I still almost get a tear in the eye when I look at the pics
So I've done the right thing in educating Toff, as in front wheel drives are s..t.....except Golfs.

Fast forward to the present and I bought Josh Fair's blue 4 door and found it to be the donor car rather than the recipient due to the rust and some other problems. Luckily (very) I found a 1979 Mars Red 4 door that was sitting in a paddock up in the hills behind New Norfolk for the past 6 years and unbelievably very little rust excepting the mandatory lower pillar drivers side and the same side guard. $100 all up. Again, luckily I got a spare guard from Josh. All doors are good incl. the seals and cards and the only bits I'll need are the (you guessed it) external window scrapers and a full roof reline and all seats and maybe a dash and and and .......
So, I'm giving myself about 12 months before I'm finished and it will be fully sprayed in Mars Red by next summer.

Well, by posting this here I've put the pressure on myself so I have to perform now.
Oh and BTW I bought the 1.8 8V and 5 speed box from Dado. He sent it from Sydney on a Thursday and I got it the next Monday in Hobart. Unbelievable.
