Getting the condensor in the front as well as the intercooler and radiator is your drama. Also, there's not much room for an AC compressor.
My only thoughts on getting that to work would be to remake the front of the car. Cut out the gubbins between the chassis legs and re do it to take all that hardware.

    Thanks Gavin.

That might work - my panel beater already suggested removing the front clip to straighten a few things. He would drill out the spot welds so we keep the original VW part.
I was already thinking we should make it more like a modern "radiator support" panel so it can be easily detached and make engine installation simpler. Most of all I want it to look original ... but more functional.

Any thoughts on an alternative turbo or the downpipe options?

Not sure if this is any help but a Barina radiator fits nicely under the slam panel.

    Thanks Sports Racer.

I'm off to the US in a month or so and thinking of bringing back this ...
Mk1 Intercooler Radiator Assembly AC Fitment – S&P Automotive

Looks like it has a slightly smaller FMIC to accommodate an AC condenser.

Has anyone seen this or fitted it?

My panel beater is now less enthusiastic than he was before, but some progress is made - the engine and gearbox are out ...

Always good to see another MK1 being fixed.
