A pillar rust, footwell rust, and just rust in general if it cranks, starts and runs, should be pretty decent

Just would like to know what things should I watch out for when buying a mk1 ?
Thanks

Buy complete if possible. Trying to track down discontinued parts will drive you insane. Engine is not so important as a running mk3 lump and gearbox can be sourced for relatively cheap.
Rust and wiring have been known to be the real killers in these cars, and almost all will need some attention to both

Did any one say rust?

Interesting article but no mention that mechanical parts from later model Golfs are interchangeable, readily available and cheap.
