hey i got a sump if you need one....![]()
little update...
as some people know last night i broke my sump....
cruzing along doing around 50kph down moderatly bumpy suburban st came off a pretty big bump, kept mowing along because i didnt hear any metal bangs, continued along for another 20min on the way to drop stu off, pulled into his st and the oil light came on.....
jumped out the car, looked under and the oil was PISSING out, put it this way.... there was no airgap between the oil, looked like someone turned the tap on and let it run.....
so! stu topped up the car with oil and cruised home with the alarming worry about popping something under the hood, got it home safe but this was left behind......
in the driveway..... couldnt even put the drip tray under because the car is soo low.... had to jack it up and lower it down onto the drip tray haha
so now what! well mr pete jones has come to the rescue!!!!
donating a super beautiful and very helpful HD sump

I didn't realise Dom had sheared the sump plug when I made the sump up.
I assumed he'd ground through the lowest point.
I looked at the low points on the sump and attached those plates on the leading and trailing edges. This area will take the brunt of the knocks and should generally reinforce the whole thing.
By the sounds of it my next one will have to include the drain plug area.
I reckon a 3rd plate cut around the bulge where the drain plug is and a small skid plate extending past the plug.
Having said that though, I'm surprised that no-one's made a lowered sump yet.
You'd shorten the pan and reduce the height of the pickup to suit. To get the extra capacity back the sump would have to be extended sideways like the race sumps.
A dry sump setup would probably work too, they typically have shorter sumps.
My other thought was to put training wheels on Dom's sump.
Happy motoring!
Pete
hahahahhaha your a classic pete!
cheers for the comments guys, its weird, i can mow straight over speedbumps, but i cant drive along a suburban road!! my tyres have never scrubbed on me, even with the roofracks on and a full car load!
ahh well
lets see if petes sump can stand the test of time!
