    I'm ashamed!

They say sh*t happens. Well, it certainly rained down this time. (But like Neil Finn, I could still smile.) Last Thurs. we were harvesting silage and the contractor asked me to run him to another farm so he could pick up his baler. "Sure", I said and fired up the Golf. I backed it out of the garage around our truck and tandem trailer (slalem event!) and proceeded to go under the front end loader of our Deutz. I always raise the loader to above head height because the hay spikes on it are lethal weapons so I thought nothing of it as I went to pass under. Unfortunately the hydraulics had sunk and the loader had dropped.......to roof height. You can see the result in the pics. You know, we came very close to buying that Golf 5 Tdi last week.....Imagine!

Oh no Brackie. The best solution I can see would be for you to drive the beastie to Sydney, where I have a Mk1 1983 in the same colour with a damaged front on it. Swop all the panels from your car and drive it back to Tassie! Either that or get the bog out @!

Bad luck - at least nobody got hurt.

Rather than "get the bog out", try one of the paintless dent repairers first. They can get the panel straight again, and on the golf roof there is easy access, and then have the roof painted. Much better that way with none, or very little, filler. I've seen some of their work on a neighbour's car and it was amazing - you really couldn't see it!

    Good suggestion

Thanks, Peter! Yeah, I hadn't even considered it as I thought that the dent was too bad It's really a combination of a dent and a scrape. It broke my heart as I don't think the car has ever been damaged........

    Paintless dent repairer

Finally got (the only) paintless dent repairer in NW Tassie to look at the roof. He said, "No". Reckons that he would have to be able to get inside the dent to "tap it out"! Not what I thought that they did. In my naivety I imagined they sucked out the dent. I then took it to two panel beaters who refused to even give me a quote as they reckoned they'd want to take out the head lining and spray the whole car. Oh, well...Out comes the bog and I guess I'll have to clean my spray gun.

You should take out the headling and give it a push or 2 before bogging her up. Good Luck.
