I reckon its hard to pull apart the barrell. You have to drill it out or something. I can change any other lock on a golf to fit a key, but have never sucessfully pulled an ignition barrel apart.
Hey all,
Problems...
The ignition barrel has been stuffed. i tried to put the key in and noticed that it wont accept the key
How hard is it to pull apart the barrel and fix? or is it easier to buy another barrell/keys?
Pics have been taken (on the phone) but they aren't the best of quality
cheers all,
Darks

I agree with the Loon. If you get desparate I have a barrel and key. (Matt...you must have heaps )
If the steering lock is not working, you can unscew the screw that holds the plastic switch block onto the back of the ignition barrell and use a screwdriver to start the car
I have several barrells, but there are different kinds, early or late. Are your indicator stalks triangular or square? They hold on with either 4 or 3 screws depending on type.

Managed to pull it all back together (used a screw driver to turn the little bar around)
prob is now, the car wont stay on (keys a little stuffed) i have to physically hold the key in place....
any suggestions of what could be wrong?
plastic switch block on the back of barrel is damaged or not lined up.

I'll give it a go.
I just checked out a lock smith here in canberra (CLASS) and they have quoted me $40 to fix the barrell (recondition) so if the new key doesn't work/swtich etc, i'll give it to them!
