    How much a Mk1 Cabriolet?

    Hey there's a cabriolet on carsales I like the look of: (http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=7228301&__Qpb=true&Cr=3&__Ns=pCar_R ankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Price_Decimal|1||pCar_Make_S tring|0||pCar_Model_String|0&__N=1216%201282%20429 4962746%204294962677%204294929723&silo=1011&seot=0 &__Nne=15&trecs=7&__sid=1206E1BD9206)

    I was unable to follow the link. As the youngest cabriolet is now over 16 years old, purchase on condition.

    Less than $3000 usually means the roof is due for replacement, the glovebox broken, door cappings cracked, clock bleeding, worn drivers seat and water damaged carpets. Over 180,000 Klms.

    $4-5000 is the average price range, However it maybe about to show some of the above problems. around 160,000Klms.

    $6000 and above should buy the best one or two owner vehicle, which has been garaged most of its life. less than 130,000 Klms.

    Remember these cars should be garaged as most roofs will leak if left in the rain. Interior trim will fade, and plastics warp and crack if left in the sun.

    Hope this helps.

    Yup they are getting old now.

    Roofs are water resistant, not waterproof.

    Imports have less bodykit and maybe carby, or different spec models to aussie cars.

    Kjet can be hard to get serviced and parts are costly.

    That one looks ok, its an aussie one, hard car for a car yard to sell. Haggle Hard.

    I paid $5,800 for mine.

    Had new hood, paintwork great, 111,000 km on the clock.

    Interior a little tatty, wheels a little tatty but overall good, somehting to work with.

    I have seen a few for about 6k that are really nice condition. Anything cheaper be prepared to spend time and money on it. Well more so than a more expensive one

    Actually the car you mention,. I went to purchase myself, when it was for sale up in Moorooka. I reckon the owner has only had it for under a year, he would have paid about 5,500 for it and to be honest I walked away it was a dog. Same rego number. However looks like it has had a new roof and head work so maybe good for a look.

    Keep looking there are better ones.

    But according to VW you can do this...

    However the silver cabriolet looks more like a 1990 model than a '93. Interior cloth and Le Castellet wheels are from that year.

    Check the vin number, it should read WVWZZZ15Z "P" Kxxxxxx (x= numbers)
    "K"=1989, "L"=1990, "M"=1991, "N"=1992 and "P"=1993

    1993 may have been the first year it was register in.

    Sorry for the thread hijack...a mate of mine has a 1990 cabby and it has aircon fitted. The centre console has extra wide vents and some pipes running up the side. The plastics all look OEM but still a bit of an afterthought. Do you know if there were dealer and factory options of aircon?

    (Above photo thanks to Roccodingo - restorations and projects)

    Is this the same console?, A/C was a dealer fitted option (Part number VA089 600). Your friend must have a manual, as the automatic versions looked awful. Made out of plywood, with knobs and vents stolen from a discarded "Dr Who" TV studio set.

    I guess it was cheaper to add the A/C in Australia, as the US versions were neatly packaged with a far tidier design. Australian models also miss out on Airbag, Heated seats, Trip Computer and Cruise Control.

    We did get the Roof Rack's with Ski and Sail Board Attachments!
