How many MK1's in OZ

Just wondering if anyone had any idea as to how many MK1 are still left in Australia or how many were imported 3 & 5 Dr models Auto,Manual.

Hi, cann't answer precisely but this may give you some insite.
Mk1 only aval between 1976 -1981 (at latest) at first as a import ,then manufactured kit, then special import, then no golf's imported until the early 1990's.
optimistic estimates 60,000.(more like 30000-40000) private imports after that, maybe 1000-2000.
probable 3/5 door split was 10/90%.
Still left, not many

thought mk1s were made here in australia? are we driving german imports?

I have one - a '76 2 door, manual. Still on the road (but I got a flat tyre this morning grrrrrrr).

LS golfs (1976 and maybe late '75) are Australian made/assembled. GLS golfs ('77 on) are German made. I think.

Don't see too many on the road these days, but I still see ones I hadn't come across before.

As for definite numbers, don't know. There's a guy over at the aircooled forum that has heaps of stats like this; maybe I'll ask there.

I was actually after numbers on the B1 (mk1) 2 door passat, have one with a factory sunroof, it you talk to your aircooled guy check if he has any infor one the passats please
