Let me know how it goes. There are a few of us interested in giving it a go too. I have a MicroTech right now and I am happy but it could be better, and I have heard great things about the MSquirt.

I've just redone the cylinder head on my 1990 mk1 cab engine code JH. Next step is to get the injection system sorted. Went to replace the injectors and they fall straight thru. Has anyone got a pic or diagram of how the injectors sit / lock in? I reckon i either have the wrong injectors or am missing a cradle or mount for them.
    Thanks Jim

Where would one look at fitting a aftermarket EFI system to a 1800 Mk1?

Ive had a quick search and have only found K-jet stuff, or EFI for the 16V's

Sounds like you're missing the injector holders.

Upon re-reading, it may just be that you're missing the o-rings if you've got the holders.

All that holds the injector into the holder is the green o-rings you can see in the zip lock bag above.

Gents thank you for the input and pictures... worth a thousand words.
I've done some hunting and the brass bush insulator holders are definitely awol.

    So...

Looking thru for part numbers and i've located the following from AutohauzAZ website in USA that I've used before to procure parts on a 1977 golf I worked on.

    Link FYI: Select Your Model

Note they list the JH engine type as 1989 on the MK1 Cabriolet, not 1990 as mine is registered here in Aus.
However, I reckon this is correct due to time to fabricate/ship/register from Germany to Australia.

Part description / numbers based on picture info (Thanks Peter):

Fuel Injector Insulator; Lower; Rust Colored Plastic Part No# 035133554
For models with CIS. Also need (1) 035133557 seal o-ring to intake manifold. Please verify appearance of existing unit prior to ordering.

Fuel Injector Insulator; Upper Insulator Bushing; Brass Part No# 034133555A

Febi Fuel Injector Seal; O-Ring, Green; Injector Upper; 6x5.2mm Part No# 034133557E (1 per injector - not needed if complete injector assembly bought).

Bosch OEM Fuel Injector; With Seal Part No# 0437502045 (For models with Bosch CIS injection system).

    PROBLEM.....

The fuel injector states for models with Bosch CIS injection system.
So based on GRN VGN's comment above can i safely assume that my JH IS acutally CIS (1989 engine) as opposed to 1990 (2H engine) where they changed to Digifant II Electronic injection?

Reckon i'm right but before splashing out on parts from Europe i'd like a second opinion and / or contact details from a seller here in Aus who might be able to supply. I do want to go new as opposed to cleaning the existing injectors.

    Thanks
    Jim

    CIS = K-Jet

There's two o-rings on the injector itself (The ones in the bag). The green ones are what hold the injector into the brass insert and the black ones go on the tip of the injector To seal it against the inside of the brown plastic insulator.

The insulator has another o-ring to seal it against the head.

The insulator just clips on the end of the brass bit before you screw it in.

So all up there's an injector, 3 o-rings a brass holder and a plastic insulator per cylinder.

If you were to head down the Electronic fuel injection path in the future there's a replacement for the brass piece that will hold a solenoid type injector.

There's also a couple of plastic variants of the brass bit.

Sounds like you've figured it out but perhaps it would be best if you could post a picture of the backside of the head just so I can make sure you're on the right track?

There's an earlier system that didn't use air shrouding around the injectors and just uses the brass bit to hold the injector, the telltale is the small vacuum connection on the back of the head.

I have all those parts in stock here Bar the injectors if you want them ( same price as I will just reorder stock ) and yes, the US changed over to digifant where we got left with the older k jet for our cars.
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    Cheers,
    Grant...

    Peter, Mark
Thanks for your comments / help.

I've put an order thru for all parts ex US. As long as each order entering AU is under 1000 AU$ then there's no import tax / GST.

Due to number of other items I need its worthwhile going this way as prices even with delivery are lower than trade quotes here.

Will post some pictures, once I've got the engine reassembled.

    Thanks

    Jim
