So chrome and plastic are equal in my book
Agree, but they're very rare now.

Coming from the UK I'd say chrome as I can't remember seeing them that often.

The chrome ones were the common ones here as they were on 90% of Golfs sold in Australia. The grey plastic ones only came here for 1979 and we never had black.

Exactly, can't imagine they were sold (in the UK) for long compared to the plastic ones. Besides by 1992 when I started driving they would have rusted...

I honestly like the look of no bumpers at all. Very 'track day' and so much cleaner. Also less weight (And I have the plastic on my MK1 coz they are lighter than the steely chromers).
MK1 floG soon to have 16v 2L with cable change gbox - need a 16v turbo manifold

"Fit the gearbox ya bum." Loon - best post ever!

Thanks for the replies guys - sounds like we have a unamimous consensus here, which suggests to me that we have (collective) great taste

I agree with (I think) all these comments. Chromies look good on early
MkI's for sure, although I preference is for late model plastic ones...
    Both look good though.
The most importance thing is to retain good taste whatever you do...
Keep it simple is great advice
Chromies are mantory on swallow tails though I think, yes.

Funny, it wasn't until I saw Synchro's post that I (consciously) realised what was different about the bumpers on the GTI - they're black!
My '79 (of course) had grey plastic bumpers - thanks mate

do you mean take out the chrome inserts?
cause chrome doesnt really suit the flares n plastic bumpers.
if you want to get rid of the chrome on the rubbers, turn the rubbers inside out. lol...
    i like my mk1s
clean and clutter free, on 15in bbs rims n low!

I prefer them without arches....even tho mine has them at the moment, im just having the GTI look alike untill i get some fat 13z or 15z and some coil overs.
    Cheers, Benny
