I was at a hillclimb event here in Hobart yesterday, at the Domain. I saw this great lil silver MK1 GTI drive past, it is good to see it on the road guys .

An early Golf (Andrew) Mk1 was blowing away a Porsche GT3 and Nissan GTR's. I think Andrew was running about 5th fastest times maybe even up to 3rd on a few runs.

fast cars were, moores Mk2 escort (cosworth powered) a GTI-R pulsar and Finlaysons (sp) evo.

I love owning a car that is un-inposing and can blow away big dollar performance vehicles given the right conditions.

My wee lil mk1 is quicker than my old 944.

Yeah there is a guy in Canberra who has a littel blue MK1 golf that gets out to the local hill climb track and he does pretty well against a lot of other big dollar cars. I can't wait to get out there and have a go too! Hill climbs and motorkana are all I want to do.

I was at the Hillclimb held at our Domain on Sunday and noticed parked on the side of the road this really smick looking orange mk1 Golf siting nice and low .I should have had my camera.
Its true this little old green Golf running a 9a almost standard was killing a real mc coy GT3,oh did I mention several Nissan R cough cough 32s,R33s,Porsche 911 Turbo,V8 this and that etc blah blah.
Get building Guys they are the ducks guts.

The only way to do it, is watchem laugh away then watchem cry and winge
bout how they missed geared, car not running well etc.

the golf is near completion, still needs some bits but the Audi engine has not got far to go. Im finalising some componets like ecu and tuning but the the gold has an Audia 80 2ltr with electronic ig, Haltec ecu, Spax springs with Koni struts, i adding a garret T25, new pistons, heaps next years QLD serious is going to be mine, watch out GTR's!!! LOL anyway the car should be about 360BHP at the fly, my gearbox is about to be remedy'd with a six speed LSD box its coming together cost alot though..

That is highly unlikely (impossible...) with that turbo, no matter what the spec. They are limited to around 270 wheel hp in optimum spec and even in such a case, will not last long as they are operating beyond their limits.

A Golf 1 with over 300hp is nearly undriveable as a street car in terms of torque steer and wheelspin so I hope this is for the racetrack? I ended up not using my old Golf 1 (now owned by my boss!) on the street as it was too difficult to drive with care and I would lose my driver's permit!

They are wonderful fun to drive with so much power but need race tyres to get much of it to the pavement, and very stiff rear suspension.

Depending on how you choose to use the car, you may be better off with a 5spd gearbox from a traction viewpoint. It depends on many things, though.
