    HIDs

Hey hey, has anyone put HIDs into their MK1? My headlights are rubbish even after the relay fix. Just want to be able to melt the paint off the car in front and make oncomming drivers blind heh heh

I don't have HID's but the aftermarket lights I do have are pretty good, coupled to the relay fix. Probably the most modern thing on my car.

Hey dude, im not sure what you guys mean by relaying it or waht not, but i have HIDs in my mk1.

I have 12K which are kinda purple ish blue which look crazy. It hasnt seemed to melt the headight or anything at all so thats good. But yeah as mentioned above, that would be the most modern thing on my car too hahaha

As mentioned above, the bulb brand/wattage can affect the light output.
But also, 20-30 year old glass lenses tend to be smothered in tiny stone chips, 'scattering/dissapating' the light, may be worth replacing them?

Once you have done the relay mod get some 90/100w globes and you will get better results than a hid kit.

That's one advantage of having such an old car - the headlights aren't plastic so won't melt with 90/100 globes.

Hey man, im not sure what the others have done with this mod. But for me it was simple.

Set up a relay that uses the current headlight wire as a switch to the relay. I then bridged both headlights to the relay, and grounded them individually. You have to then do another relay setup for the high beam, unless you have a dual relay switch.

Really simple mod, and pretty effective too. I used to have heaps or troubles with the headlights, and after the relay setup (mine is a dodgy quick setup haha) i havnt had any problems since
