Hi guys,
I don't have the space or tools to do a valve adjustment and replacement of the stem seals. Does anyone have the tools/time to help me out if I drove to their location?
I have the stem seals on hand, but still need to check my clearances before getting shims, and am in need of a rocker cover gasket.
so... any knowledgeable lads able to help keep the mk1 up to scratch?
Cheers.
unless there is something unique with a golf engine, you need to remove the head to be able to remove the valve springs and retainers to then get to the seals. this will give you the opportunity to lap the valves in and give the head a bit of a skim
i have heard of filling the combustion chamber with compressed air or feeding rope through the sparkplug hole and jamming it against valves to hold them in
wow do I look stupid... Victoria, Melbourne.. I can drive anywhere within 1.5 hours of the CBD if need be I'm not worried about distance, I'd just rather do these things myself and learn.. then pay someone.
I've read the guides on the forum and understand the process, I just don't have the tools or space (no garage) to do the work.. and I thought I'd see if someone had the time/inclination to give me a hand in exchange for beer and/or the love of golf's :p
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.
