My tip is to get the following tools together as a minimum - and you buy say Repco brand you will get a good kit for value money (not chinese cheap though)

    Socket set - Metric 6mm - 32mm
Screwdriver set - Philips and Flat
    Open ended/Ring spanner set - 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15 should be enough
    Hammer
    Good trolley jack

That should get 90% of a mk1 apart and back together again!

    17 & 19mm ring spanners!

most of a mk 1 is 10, 13, or 17mm. there's a few extra other ones in there too, say 15mm for the brake calipers and 7mm for the brake bleed nipple, or even a 19mm for the rear engine mounts. But either way, everything is pretty simple to undo, you might just have to wiggle around a bit to get at it!

On the topic of bolt sizes, my uncle has a very early Suzuki Carry (ute) and he always goes on about the fact that there's only two bolt-head sizes throughout the entire car: 10mm and 13mm.

Mike's list of tools is about all I've ever used!
