We did line up, from cyc 1 was lined up with lead 1 at the marking on the dizzy, while the engine was at TDC (we check by removing the spark plug trick, it is lined up with the flywheel TDC too)

Wouldn't it fire on atleast on cycl 1? and not the rest if we mixed it up?

    EDIT:
We havn't looked at cam pully markings yet. is it possible the intermediate shaft is out of whack from when josh changed the timing belt, hence why the dist was so far out?

By the way, that wouldn't make any difference to the performance.
So long as all his leads are 180° out

Yeah, but it wouldn't have been firing on all cylinders if it wasn't.

Please tell me you guys made sure it's firing on all cylinders?

Ummmm I'm not quite understanding you at this point.

This is a 4 stroke motor, the pistons go up and down twice for every rotation of the distributor. To make sure you're on the firing stroke look for the dot on the motor side of the camshaft pulley to line up with the rocker cover flange at the front of the motor.

    Yeah true.

So hard to help out when you can't be there to see what's going on..

Don't just go off the flywheel mark. Also use the cam pulley marking's. That's what there there for.

If it's 180 out, it won't run at all & spit fuel out the carb, most likely with flames too!
we whipped out sparky #1 and TDC'd it that way and the flywheel marking was in the right spot too.

i recon its 180 out now, it wont run and it does shoot flames out the carb.... HMMMM

    You've lost me fella's sorry.

If you've got a manual, read the section about removing & refitting the dizzy & read it carefully TWICE! Then follow the instruction's to the letter.
