HELP: Leaning out??!?!

Driving my mk1 back to back with Jarreds mk1, mine is HEAPS slower and WAY LESS responsive.

its pinging heaps althought its been timed properly and its leaning out at 5g's.

its breathless and it shouldnt be with a whopping DCOE on it and a 2" exhaust with extractors.

it's also got 98 octane in the tank.

how was this done? what did you use as TDC marker? flywheel marker sometimes doesnt line up if its been put on wrong.

what about plugs, leads and dizzy cap. Are these new/old/cheap-and-nasty?

have you got plenty of fuel pressure from your pump? (crap pump or dirt in tank can give lean mix)

yup it was timed from the TDC marking on the flywheel.

dizzy cap, sparkies and leads all need to be replaced, how do i check the fuel pump, what if the carby is jetted wrong?

An engine is as good as its worst companant.

Change the cap, leads and rotor for starters. Dont use crap blue leads.

I usually check the timing belt is timed properly and then with the dissy cap off, check the arm is pointing at the corner of the block. TDC marks on flywheels can be wrong.

How do you know its lean?? It could be heaps rich which will make it slow too.

Also, one thing I've mentioned to you before. Your trying to feed a DCOE with a stock Mk1 1.6L fuel pump unregulated. Of course it might lean out. Your using more fuel than it can probably supply.

You really do need an electric fuel pump & a regulator.

Loon's also right. It's only as good as it's weakest link. I've been through this with you I think. Lead's, plug's, cap, rotor button, Point's & condensor.

Also I don't know how flywheel's can be fitted incorrectly. I honestly don't They are dowelled! Well all the ones I've removed & refitted are.
