    nice build mate, you got any earlier pics?
    herne bay to derby is a fair trip... no wonder it took 8 months
    i lived in allenton for a while, we have family in chellaston. where abouts is the old man in derby?

    Hi fella, well engine basics are pretty standard but I am running a TSR pack "A" gasflowed and ported head,Piper Ultimate 264 Cams,Piper Vernier pulley, twin weber 48's with stubby stacks and sock filters and a TSR 4-1 exhaust manifold.

    Ahh cool. Have you had it on a dyno? VERY cool car, mate. What sort of competition do you use it for?

    As promised, here's mine:

    Head:

    • Head fully Ported+polished
    • Techtonics Tuning vernier adjustable cam gear
    • Techtonics Tuning 276deg cams
    • INA lightweight OEM lifters
    • ARP head studs
    • Supertech HD valve springs w/Titanium retainers
    • Supertech reduced shank 32.5mm nitrided inlet valves
    • Supertech swirl ground 28.5mm inconel exhaust valves
    • Ashley 4-1 exhaust manifold

    Bottom End:

    • JE 11.0:1 compression 82.5mm forged pistons
    • Teflon piston buttons
    • CRS chromoly H Beam rods w/ARP L19 bolts
    • Lightened intermediate shaft
    • Knife edged crankshaft
    • Crank, harmonic balancer accessory pulley, clutch and flywheel dynamically balanced
    • INA Engineering “ABF” alternator kit
    • ARP main stud kit.
    • Lightened flywheel
    • SPEC Stage 4+ 6 puck solid centre clutch.

    I haven't fired the thing up yet.. Still working on the car.

    Wow that sounds like one expensive engine Chris!! Mine is basically as it came from the donor car once it develops something terminal then the plan is to either spec up the KR or go G60

    Hi,that is an Autocavan Superbrake bar that is a rare bit of kit fron the Autocavan company ,they were made up to the mid eighties they still appear on ebay occasionally and Club Gti in the uk is I think considering running a group buy on them

    I have a Superbrake bar in my Mk1 - imported it from the UK. I have to say they're not that great if you don't brace the booster area, though. Instead of the flex running through the bar like in the standard linkage, it just transfers onto the booster mount!

    I'm yet to modify mine further, but it does need doing to get better results.

    I like the idea of only a couple of pivot points to reduce the slop in the brake linkages instead of the 6 of the standard setup. Anything to make the MK1 brakes better.

    Looks like the easiest way is to build my own. I'm putting in a brake booster off a 97 polo so I'll make it to suit that booster. Thanks for the tip on bracing the booster, I'll over engineer that part.
