Yeah, suspect you've got genuine MK 1 GTI stuff there.

The more I read it looks like I've got an Audi 80 conversion.

Same diameter disc (256mm) I think Think Audi one is 22mm thick and the golf 20mm though.

I don't know which is better yet.

I'll pull a wheel off tonight and have a better look at what's under there.

Matt has confirmed these are genuine MK 1 GTI Discs and Calipers, so the search continues.

Ok I'm going slowly crazy trying to figure this one out.

I can't be the only person in the world to wants to put better pads on MK 1 GTI brakes!

So far Bendix has said they only make the standard DB-401 but I might get NOS DB401BM (Metal Kings) if I shop around. Trouble with that concept is the pads on my car are already DB401 BMXP and so were the previous set. So that sort of blows that concept.

Bendix also claim these were only fitted to Audis.

Mintex has standard ones MDB1150 but no upgrades.

EBC has GreenStuff pads (as near as I can figure out) but no standard, red or yellow stuff pads. DP310, DP2310

    Ferrodo website sucks

    PBR website sucks

Pagid has Std ones TO291 but no upgrade path and also says they're Audi only.

Am I doing something wrong here?

    Here's the brake caliper.

    It's made by Girling.

The Caliper is marked VW AUDI 32321234 CN6 5100
The Carrier is marked 1288 CN3

The disc itself is 239mm diameter and 20mm thick.

    Any clues?

maybe hit uk ebay Pete? mk 1's are very popular over there as we know, some I'm sure (being a bigger market than Oz and all) they'd have a few solutions?

I look at a few us online stores, but they only sell mintex ones, (cheap though) for vented discs, but I'm believe only as replacement, not upgrade pads. So I donno , maybe vortex or clubgti will have some solutions?

OK I've decided on EBC greenstuff pads after chatting to a couple of brake places.

Part number is DP2310-2 which is equivalent to Bendix ultimate pads.

None in Australia at the moment of course, will have to get some in the next shipment.

Well that fell through. The local distributor says that they're no longer being manufactured in the greenstuff compound.

I'll have to go looking for old stock on-line or just give up and change the calipers.
