    Golf GLI Cabrio

Here is a pic of my Golf GLI Cabrio.
It has the original 1.6 EG K Jet engine and is currently undergoing a rebuild!

Does anyone know how many other GLI's came to Australia?

    Cheers!

    Looks pretty neat!

I'm pretty sure all GLI's (inc cabby's) were all imports. I wouldn't think there would be many more than a dozen or so in the country.

Its a 1981 model GLI. It was purchased late 1981 by an Aussie bloke who drove it around Europe for a month or two before shipping it to Australia. It was imported under a program that VW Australia had where the new owner picks it up at the factory then ships it back here. VW Aus then dealt with getting it certified for rego in Aus.....It has all the original paperwork with it still! It cost the bloke a bunch of cash back then!

I had a silver 81 GLI cab. Great car, the GTI 1.6 revved out well, very smooth. Unfortunately this one was T boned one christmas eve. Showed its strength though and was driveable when I took it round to get insurance quotes.
Replaced it with a late Cab which has no performance in comparison.
