they can be a right bastard to set properly, you need two people, one the continually get gears, the other to adjust the linkage on the spigot
Alright, so I replaced the inner gearbox side cv in my mk1 last week (engine is a 1.8 from a mk2 gti) everything went pretty smoothly, car drives. But ever since swap I haven't been able to select first gear.... I've plays with linkages (under instruction from Gipson) trying to manually select first then set linkages from there, but I continue to select (what I assume is third gear, due to the fact that at high revs I can get car to move forward, so I'm guessing its not fifth).
Basically I need advice. Is there something I could have done/not done/ f***ed up while I was replacing cv that could have caused this. Or is there something I'm not doing to correctly set/adjust the linkages....

I actually, finally managed to fix this today! Took many MANY frustrating attempts, but it's now all good.
