I think the best size wheels are those that are the minimum size required to clear your desired brakes. Everything else is for show. I suppose it really comes down to the philosophy that is guiding the build up of your car. Personally, I think go is more important than show, but each to there own.... I am running et 20 15x 7 (195/45/15 Michelin pilot sports) now. The most forgiving and thrashable combo I have ever had was 205/60/13 (yoko 352,s) on 5.5 alloys. Have had 185/60/14 (yoko A008's) on 14x6), and 195/50/15 (yoko 539). Obviously, I like the yoko's. The main reason racecars have large wheels is to clear their massive brakes. My mate is running 205/40/16's at the moment on 16x7's and it seems to handle quite nicely. Woteva floats your boat i guess....
About the fuel tank, i remember someone years ago recomending taking it to a radiator place to get flushed. Might be worth a few phone calls Endless.
