    fuel and oil type?

does the 8v use premium fuel and the expensive golf only oil, like latter models?

I just bought a new 1993 Cabriolet - 1.8 8v k-jet and it has a sticker under the bonnet that my 1991 one didn't have saying 91-93RON minimum or something along those lines. I've been putting 95 in mine for about the 3 times I've ever put fuel in, but that's purely because 95RON is standard unleaded in Europe they don't use 91 like the cars over here.

As for oil I remember the Castrol I bought being like a pretty cheap version - it wasn't one of the newer ones that's VAG approved.

    I've always run 91 in my MK2.

There was something on the ABC a few months ago where they recommended 91 for almost every car on the road. Obviously the high performance cars with high compression engines need 95 but the Cabby should be fine on 91.

    Cheers

You can go thicker on older engines. Sometimes it can be more beneficial especially if the engine has done a lot of k's and has a bit of wear, keeps it quieter.

You don't need expensive oils either. Anything from Supercheap or Repco will do.
