Wow. I've never seen a carbon mk1 dash before.
I had a mk2 dash in my previous car which worked well without cracks.
Since its pretty hard finding a decent quality early style dash, ive been looking pretty hard for a replacement to spiff up the interior of my car. Carbon fibre or fibre glass seem to be the options. I have only seen this late style one for LHD tho. Golf I Carbon Dash : Ramsport, Preparation and Maintenance of Rally Cars
Ive seen on other forums a lot of people have wanted to make one but none have come through! Price would also hold some people back i guess. but if its available more people may get swayed!

Yuck.
If you can find a plastic S1 dash out of the UK, that's probably the best option if you can't find a good dash here.

Just find a straight-ish dashboard and pay a few hundred dollars for professional restoration (Dash Dr. Melb etc.)
CF looks horrible inside most cars, especially a 30+y/o German rust bucket.
Ramsport will make you a RHD dash (although the quality of their finishing is questionable), but you won't be able to run it here legally. Any savvy cop will bomb sticker you as you can't have any reflective surfaces around the windscreen... Probably fair enough, too (unlike some rules!), as it can be a bit dodgy.
You can always avoid polishing the resin and have one made in matte, but then you really notice any air bubbles through the thinner resin, which you'll get from pretty much all the carbon workshops, except about two of them who want over $3k for a dash + freight and duty!
I'd avoid having an early dash restored/retrimmed as it's only ever a temporary measure (much like acrylic paint!), unless they basically remodel the frame, which is the cause of all the problems and cracking, and this costs decent money. Depends how much you want to spend and whether there are other areas of your car where the money would be better spent first.

Ok thanks for that guys, yeah, was just looking to other options if my dash craps out totally one day. Its not too bad it has no cracks yet luckily, but is starting to sag on one end. Other than that, you are right Valver, There are definately areas where money can be better spent first!

The other issue is that since about the late '60s padded dashboards have been mandated by the ADRs.
I broke my hand on a steel dashboard once when I bent the steering wheel into it during a collision. A padded dash and a collapsible steering column would have lessened the injuries.

My god that dash would be a reflective pain in the arse.
