    Emission Air Pump

Hey Guys,is the Emission Control Air Pump necessary on my mk1 1.6?
Mine collapsed a while ago and it runs fine without it,a bit better actually as it used to pop and fart on over-run when it was working.
I reckon they'd do me if the Authorities did an Emission test on it.
I've been trying to find a replacement pump for a while but when I say the words ''77 vw golf, people stare blankly or burst out laughing.Any advice?
    Andy.

Havent seen a working one for years.
Make it look like it works if it bothers you, the cars run better without em and some year models didnt have em.

take it all off. Get rid of all the hoses connected to it, and whilst you're at it, get rid of the carbon canister in the rain tray and under the front right gaurd.

too right, they just collect rust!

just plug up the holes in the head with Beetle wheel bolts and it should look pukka

Rust in the rain tray is right.I had to repair a patch of rust under the canister when I first got it.
Guess i'll remove it all,if that's the go.
    Thanks guys.
