Hi guys and gals...
Just thought i'd let you guys know how elated i am to have an extra 1500rpm avaliable... My 1.8 8v had been revving to 4900rpm and then it would start sounding really tinny and harsh.. and the tacho was stopping dead at 4900 so i assumed it was the ignition cutting out or not advancing enough..
I got hold of a electronic ignition system with some other parts, and i connected that, but couldnt get it to work... even after replacing most of it with the ignition from a saab 93... After much frustration , i went on a search for a complete working setup, which i obtained from Andy (vwgolf) from his old golf. I got that in the post yesterday, so i bolted it on first thing after work and did my timing... AND IT WORKS!
The car running smoother and goes harder, and i expect it to use less fuel.
The funniest thing is, if im on the gas, the tacho still stops at 4900.. but the engine keeps on going up what sounds like another 1000-1500rpm. Turns out the tacho is dodgy! ... So that explains why even with points, it was revving past 4900, but i was turned off revving it past that cos the of the noises due to the inaccuracy of the points.
I dont mind though... i'm just over the moon about how fast my car goes now...
This is a highly reccomended upgrade form the old points system... worth every cent
cheers
mike

TDI mk1 on the road!!
Nice work!!
My brother donated the module and coil from one of his dead audi's, added a dizzy from Mr Loon -didn't try the Audi dizzy 'cause it had an extra plug lead (hot-swap spare???)
Makes the yellow golf rev to 7 quite happily, and it is set and forget!!
