    Electrical Problems

Wondering if anyone can help on the following electrical problems, MK1 GLD

windscreen wiper relay has failed finding it hard to source a new one,

had low beam on one headlight with engine on (leaves parkers on only when engine stops to stop battery going flat) now I have lost both headlights and it had blown the fuse. It has one fuse for each headlight. I suspect another relay has failed but I haven't identified it yet

Have you tried VW for a relay? Camden GTI or Brian at GTI imports should also be able to sell you a relay

    Last resort ->

    GermanAutoParts.com

Check this out; postage will be bugger all, you would have it in a week.

Relay 99 from a MK3 Golf is the same.

Should be able to find one at the wreckers or a dealer.

    Hey mate,

You might find that the fusebox is a bit damaged internally, you can pull it apart and try to fix the tracks if your keen (with a little prying, the whole fusebox can be taken apart).

    fuse amps function

    1 8 low beam left
    2 8 low beam right
3 8 high beam left and warning light (on dash)
    4 8 high beam right
    5 16 rear demister
6 8 brake lights, hazard lights
7 8 interior light, cigarette lighter, radio
8 8 blinkers and warning light on dash
9 16 reverse lights, horn, fuel stop solenoid
    10 8 blower fan
11 8 wipers, washer pump relay
12 8 number plate lights (and dash lights i think)
    13 8 parkers right
    14 8 parkers left
    15 16 radiator fan

hey mate the parklight will stay on with the ignition off if the indicator is left on, that could be why the park light was still on mate, the other issues make sure you get the proper relays not just generic units or they will screw the fusebox even more mate and can cause some wiring to melt (happened to me once cause the relay wasn't correct for headlights)

Does anyone know where to purchase a rear demister relay for the Mk1?
