Ahhhhh dont cut a hole in a mint Mk1 guard.
But if you do have to... Get a 25mm hole saw bit.
Hi All
I have to drill a 25mm hole in the LHS front guard to fit an aerial, what is the best way to do this as the largest drill bit I have is only 10mm wide...
Any ideas?

With a hole saw
or a punch
or perhaps a step drill
they're probably the more common ways to do it.
Personally I'd go without the radio rather than cutting the guard.

You could use Dremel, if you have one.

Use one of the aerials you stick to the inside of your windscreen.

Or do what I do and serenade yourself.
Thanks guys!
Do I have to keep the paint/ metal cool if I do drill the guard so the paint does not blister from heat or something? What do I use? Water??
May investigate other alternatives however I don't mind the aerial on the guard looks like it should be there IMO..
Just drill slowly. Cover the area in masking tape for a fair distance around the cut and drill through the tape.
This will help minimise damage from hot metal off the drill burning pits into the surrounding paint.
Best to protect the bonnet and windscreen too.
Remember to paint the freshly cut steel so it doesn't rust.

Garbon,
save yourself some grief, and get a panel beater todo it for you.

If u are going to Go the hole saw route I've just had to drill through some 44 gallon drums for a bio diesel project. I took it nice an slowly. And use and oil lubricants to keep the saw bit clean and cool. It was a fairly clean cut but it will take off paint around the area. For the drums it was ok but I don't think I would do it to a car panel.
