The later door handles won't fit. Totally different door locks and mountings for the lock assembly itself. Sorry bout that.

I think 76 mdl ones are different to all the rest... When I squeeze the trigger it PUSHES into the mechanism in the door where the later mdl ones push DOWN on the mechanism in the door... the best way I can describe it...... Mine started to stuff up.. I just glued a piece of fuel hose to the metal mechanism in the door so now the trigger pushes in far enough to release the door.... wow.. thats really hard to explain![]()
I have plenty to suit just pm me.
If you look at the two types side by side there is a pivot pin. If you drill that out, you can turn one kind into the other.
Time consuming but free!

using the doors when i do if there handles are stronger
Purists would immediately pick the non authentic door latchers as wrong for that yearmodel.

I fixed the trigger on the passenger door handle of my silver GLD with a piece of welding rod. Not original but it works![]()
The most important thing to do is to lubricate the mechanism. If this is nice and slippery the latches will work nice and smoothly. If they're stiff then you'll end up breaking the trigger.
Oh.. Does anybody have some door handle gaskets for the Mk1?
And while we're on the subject of handles...what about locks? My red GLD has keys that are so worn my Mrs refuses to take it to town in fear that she can't unlock it (I can...there's a knack) I went into a Mr Fixit in Devonport and a very rude proprietor told me that if he cut a new key for me the "peaks" on the profile wouldn't be there so it would be no better. Gone are the days of a locksmith with a file
